Welcome to NMHRP
About New Mexico Human Rights Projects: Founded in 1989, New
Mexico Human Rights Projects (NMHRP) is the only non-profit organization in the
state providing unique, hands-on programs that engage students intellectually
and emotionally to think about the choices they make when confronted with prejudice,
racism, violence and discrimination.
Using
lessons learned from history, addressing the dynamics of bullying, and
encouraging a dialogue on social and racial injustice, NMHRP seeks to challenge
our most basic understanding of human nature and encourage youth to be more
respectful, compassionate and empathic human beings.
Exhibits,
speakers, workshops and other activities involving New Mexico teachers and
students are the hallmark of the organization. NMHRP is best known for twice
bringing the internationally-acclaimed Anne
Frank in the World: 1929-1945 Exhibit to New Mexico seen by more than
180,000 people.
Understanding
the nature of man’s inhumanity to one another can be the impetus to inspire
positive behavior and social change, as well as foster confidence, encourage
self-esteem and build leadership skills.
NMHRP works tirelessly with and on behalf of students and educators to
bring an attitude of respect for others into New Mexico schools.
In
the last 15 years, NMHRP has trained more than 400 teachers, counselors and
social workers and our programs have reached more than 200,000 students from
350 New Mexico public schools. NMHRP programs empower youth, strengthen our
community, and secure a more peaceful society.
